At St Thomas’ on Saturday 7th March we hold our regular monthly Church Market with two additions – a Lent Lunch and a Book Sale. This is followed on the afternoon of Sunday 8th March by a Choral Concert.
The Church Market is open from 10.30am until 12, selling homemade and home grown produce and offering the usual coffee, tea and good company.
Afterwards, from 12.30 to 1.30 we’ll be offering a Lent Lunch of delicious homemade soup and rolls costing £3.
During all of this, there will be a Book Sale, running from 10.30 until 5pm. We plan something on a bigger scale than we usually have. People have been very generous in donating books and we are running out of storage space so we do need a sizeable clearance. This will be a chance to clear the backlog and sell additional books so, if you have books you are happy to part with, contact Howard Norton 01797 226524 and he will arrange collection. We prefer hardback non-fiction but good quality fiction and paperbacks will be welcome too.
On Sunday afternoon we have an exciting Choral Concert: ‘I am the Gentle Light’. Following the success of their visit in 2013, the Cantate Choir and Music Scholars from King’s College School Wimbledon will return to perform sacred and secular music ranging from John Rutter to Leonard Bernstein under the direction of Wincheslea resident Peter Hatch. Sunday Times ‘Independent Senior School of the Year 2014-15’, King’s is one of the most successful and prestigious schools in the UK where music plays a prominent part. Around 250 pupils in the senior school have instrumental tuition and many pupils learn two or more instruments. Pupils often win choral and organ scholarships to Oxford and Cambridge, others gain performance diplomas and pupils are regularly members of the National Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. Several pupils attend the junior departments of leading conservatoires.
