This composite photograph was created by Kieron Pelling. It shows men of the 11th Welch coming out of St Thomas’ in 1915, superimposed on a photo of the church today. Over 200 of B Company of the 11th Welch Regiment attended the service at Winchelsea on Sunday 7th March 1915. The 11th Regiment moved to Seaford then Aldershot within two months of the image being taken. Their training continued until September 1915. Like many other of the Welch Regiments, they served mainly in Salonika. This image is part of a series of ‘then and now’ images Kieron has created for East Sussex Council’s World War I Commemoration website. There’s more at www.compellingphotography.co.uk.
